About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
The Augusta Sports Council Board of Directors announced Eddie Czaplicki of USC the 2024 Ray Guy Award winner.
Czaplicki was selected from three finalists including Alex Mastromanno of Florida State and Brett Thorson of Georgia. The winner was determined by the Ray Guy Award national voting body which consists of FBS sports information directors, national media, and previous Ray Guy Award winners.
The senior from Charlotte, North Carolina has a net average of 45.70 on the year, and USC ranks first in the nation in net punting. Of his 40 punts this season, Czaplicki placed 24 inside the 20, only had one touchback, and 21 went over 50 yards. His longest punt went for 62 yards. Cazaplicki was also named the Big Ten Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year. This is the first Ray Guy Award winner from USC.
Congratulations to Eddie Czaplicki for being OUR GUY this year and to all the other punters this season.
